The Tree of Life

The glyph on the left shows the Tree of Life.

The Tree of Life is described in the body of philosophy, Jewish in origin, called the Qabalah.

It can be viewed as a "map of consciousness", with each circle (called a "sephira" in Hebrew, plural "sephirot") on the tree representing a particular aspect of our self. For example, one sephira represents the intellect, another emotions, and yet others relate to spiritual aspects.

I've taken some liberties with the Tree of Life on this site, and used it to pinpoint my various areas of interest, which correspond roughly to the various sephirot.

If you're familiar with the Tree of Life, just click on the relevant sephira to open up the parts of the site corresponding to it. If you're not, just click on sephirot at random, and you'll soon find out what each sephira means!

Hint: the sephirot at the bottom relate to the personality: physical, intellectual, emotional. The sephirot at the top relate to community and spiritual matters.

I've tried to provide links to other sites where appropriate, and in addition there is a huge range of books available on most of these topics. Wherever you see the "Bibliography" symbol, click on it to get a list of relevant books to the subject you're reading about at the time. Wherever you see the "Links" symbol, click on it to go to a page of relevant links. If you notice any missing or broken links, have a suggestion for a link or just want to make any comments, please e-mail me at chris @ southville.net (remove the spaces!).
